It’s true: I left Facebook (and Messenger), Instagram, Threads, and anything else owned by Facebook.

NOTE: I refuse to call them "Meta" as that was little more than a PR stunt to wash away Facebook’s reputation. They could rebrand as "Happy Good Sunshine & Rainbows Inc.," but the truth remains: Facebook is an unethical company that poses a real danger to society.

5 Recent Reasons Why…

These are the 5 reasons why I finally decided to do this:

  1. The recent decision to abandon fact-checking
  2. The recent decision to discontinue all DEI efforts at the company
  3. The suppression/censorship of posts about the genocide in Gaza for more than a year
  4. The intense, anti-competitive lobbying that directly lead to the TikTok ban and suppression of free speech
  5. The cozy relationship they've created with the incoming far right fascist regime.

And do you know who all of this will harm the most? The same people who it always harms: black and brown people, women, LGBTQ+, and anyone fighting for justice or speaking up about the violence and harm being caused by the status quo.

So, with all due respect, fuck that, I’m out!

Why I Stayed So Long

I’ve known for years that continuing to use Facebook makes me complicit in its actions.

And yet, like many, I stayed—locked in by the fear of losing my network and the opportunities to market my business.

The truth is that Facebook’s sheer scale keeps it central to our culture. It remains unrivaled as a way to connect with family, friends, and colleagues.

But I’m done making excuses. The cost of staying—morally and mentally—is too high.

I’ve thought about leaving for a while

Facebook has consistently shown itself to be untrustworthy, harmful, and irredeemably unethical.

It’s not just one incident; it’s a pattern:

  1. Privacy Violations: From Cambridge Analytica to hidden data-collection schemes, Facebook has repeatedly abused user trust.
